With the official Windows 11 unveiling many of you are probably wondering if your computer can run the new operating system nice and smooth. WhyNotWin11 is a tiny script designed to answer this question.

The results are based on the current known requirements

The application is portable and hence, you can start using it as soon as you download it to the desired location. The app comes with a single-window interface that displays details on what can be improved or what is preventing your machine from running the latest version of Windows.

As it also states in the interface, the compatibility results are based on the current known requirements. Essentially, the tool checks for boot type, CPU generation, CPU core count, CPU frequency, disk partitioning, RAM, Secure Boot, Storage and TPM minimum.

As you would expect, the results are displayed with color codes, meaning red does not meet the requirement, whereas green suggests the prerequisites are met. The yellow color is used as an indicator that a particular requirement is not yet known.

During our tests, we noticed the tool creates a plain text file that is empty. We are assuming this is part of a future release that probably has the role of saving the compatibility results.

A handy tool to help prepare your PC for Windows 11

Granted, it is safe to assume that most computers capable of running the latest version of Windows are also likely to be compatible with Windows 11. Then again, if your machine is not capable of running it, don't fret, as Microsoft announced they will continue to release updates for Windows 10.

In the eventuality that you are curious whether your machine can run Windows 11 or perhaps want to upgrade so that you can start using it as soon as it is launched, then perhaps you can consider giving WhyNotWin11 a try.
